Kappa Kares!

philanthropy girls1Kappa Kaddyshack

The Kappa girls of Delta Tau are passionate advocates of community service. It is one of the most important aspects of our chapter and greek life at USC. Last year Kappa Kappa Gamma Delta Tau Chapter donated over $20,000 to various charities, $16,000 of which was raised through our annual philanthropy event, Kappa Kaddyshack. Not only do we take the opportunity to contribute to our chapter’s philanthropies but also to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation, Reading is Fundament and to as many other philanthropic events in the greek and local community. Although charity may just seem like a bunch of hours and dollars, we hold it in a different light, we cherish the time we get to spend having fun while giving back and we look at it as an opportunity to be more than just an average sorority.

Our yearly philanthropic event, Kappa Kaddyshack, a monster golf tournament, supports Delta Tau Chapter’s two main organizations The Ashlyn Dyer Foundation which raises awareness of Traumatic Brain Injury, and the Story Project a literacy program for at-risk youth. The event consists of full day of goofy golf outfits, monster golf clubs and golf balls, and a full driving range. We are proud to say that this past year we raised over $16,000 all of which was donated to our charities.

The Story Project

"On March 2, 2006, Ashlyn Dyer was the victim of a hit and run accident while running through the Presidio in San Francisco. Tragically, Ashlyn passed away 10 days later as a result of her severe Traumatic Brain Injury.

An avid marathoner, Ashlyn Dyer’s drive and love of life inspired those
close to her to found the Ashlyn Dyer Foundation. Like most Americans, we were unaware of the devastating personal and financial impact of TBI. By supporting the Ashlyn Dyer Foundation, you can help raise the awareness of TBI, increase TBI funding, improve access to TBI care." Learn more by  visiting the Ashlyn Dyer Foundation Website.
"Concerned by the declining literacy rate in today's middle and high schools, Ted Hartley and Dina Merrill created The Story enlisting one of Los Angeles' most abundant resources, creative talent.

Our strategy is simple, inspire literacy through avenues they already enjoy. Each and every class occurs in an after-school setting where working writers, actors, directors and production professionals volunteer their time to our students. Through discussions and activities based in screenwriting, filmmaking, poetry, photography, and an assortment of media and art related fields, the mentors reveal personal stories while inspiring the kids to share their own. It has been our experience that these interactions bolster self-esteem while enhancing reading and writing skills." Learn more by visiting the Story Project website.

Kappas love participating in the philanthropic events held by the various fraternities in our greek system. We have a strong track record in performing well and contributing significantly to organizations that we may otherwise never get to support.
